Last Thursday, residents, community and voluntary sector organisations, Hammersmith and Fulham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) staff and staff of Parkview Centre for Health and Wellbeing celebrated the second anniversary of the health centre that opened in 2014.
Over the last two years, the centre has developed into a vibrant community hub that delivers a range of community based clinical and non-clinical services. Vanessa Andreae, Vice Chair of Hammersmith and Fulham CCG, gave a short speech to highlight the achievements and developments since Parkview Centre has opened its doors.
A number of clinical services run from the health centre to ensure that local residents can access community based services closer to home. The centre houses four GP practices in addition to hosting services such as community based dentistry, anticoagulant therapy, sexual health services and school nursing. Additionally, community groups and services regularly use the centre to deliver outreach sessions for local residents. This includes groups such as Healthy Hearts providing a cardiovascular disease prevention service, Kick IT delivering smoking cessation services and soup for lunch providing affordable and healthy eating for staff and residents with locally grown produce.
The Parkview Community Champions are based at the centre and run year round activities and events to support the community in staying well and healthy. Monthly unwind mindfulness sessions and a regular weight management peer support group are examples of projects that have been developed by the champions based on the need of the local community. Vanessa Andreae highlighted the importance of the champions within the community " Parkview is developing into exactly what it was envisioned it could be. It acts as a focus for the local area for health and wellbeing, and is led by people based in the community who want to see an improvement in the health of the local population"
The Health and Wellbeing centre also hosts a social prescribing pilot that has been commissioned by Hammersmith and Fulham CCG. This pilot helps people and residents to use and access services available in the local community. This pilot is working closely with GP practices in the centre to seek referrals and ensure that people can access the right services as quickly as possible.
