2015

World Mental Health Day is the annual global celebration of mental health education, awareness and advocacy

Every year - on 10 October - we join together in shining the spotlight on a particular aspect of mental ill health.

The theme for 2015 is Dignity in Mental Health, so as part of the CCG’s plans to mark this event we will be holding a lunch and learn where our Dementia Clinical Support team will be providing Dementia Friends Information Session.

Hammersmith and Fulham CCG is supporting Dementia Friends, an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, to help people develop an understanding of dementia and turn it into action to support customers and employees who are affected by the condition.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. By becoming a Dementia Friend staff at Hammersmith and Fulham CCG will find out the little things that they can do to help people affected by dementia.

Everyday tasks that we often take for granted can be daunting for people living with dementia. They often avoid shopping or visiting public places as they can feel anxious about the situations that they might face. To help, we are encouraging all of our staff to become Dementia Friends to ensure that we’re able to provide understanding and help to those affected by the condition. A little patience and kindness can go a long way.

If you would like to become a Friend, please log on to www.dementiafriends.org.uk or contact the Alzheimer’s Society Care Line on 0845 306 0898.

Dementia Friends aims to create four million Dementia Friends by 2020 to help those affected by the condition live well for longer.
