Hammersmith and Fulham CCG is backing the British Heart Foundation’s annual anti-smoking campaign to encourage Britain’s 10 million smokers to stub out their last cigarette on Wednesday March 11.
21 per cent of Hammersmith and Fulham residents smoke, yet studies show that over a third of all smokers want to stop.
This year’s theme is ‘Proud to be a Quitter’. Smokers are encouraged to stop smoking and, with the support of friends and families, to celebrate ‘quitting’ as an admirable act which demands strength.
You don’t have to be a smoker to get involved - anybody can tweet support for smokers who have kicked the habit tomorrow using the Twitter hashtag #NoSmokingDay.
No Smoking Day has been found to be one of the top eight most effective times of year to stop smoking. Proud quitters will be in good company, with approximately a million smokers choosing this day to quit every year.
As well as the knowledge you aren’t alone, there will be supportive messages across the media including positive stories shared on social media, and on the campaign website’s support forum.
And if you miss No Smoking Day, you don’t have to wait until next year to quit - you can seek out NHS support throughout the year. Visit the NHS Smokefree website for more information.
